Wildlife Winter Adventure

Join a 8-days workshop in the cold of Norway’s winter. We photograph eider ducks at a strong tidal current, muskoxen around the peaks of Dovrefjell, and Norway’s national bird: the white—throated dipper. And all of this wrapped in ice and snow with the beautiful pastel colours of short winter days!

From tidal currents to the arctic mountains!

Winter in Norway can be very harsh. Icy winds drive snow across the land, and the days are short. Sometimes, the Northern Lights dance across the fjords and mountains. These very elements create exciting and dramatic scenes for our cameras.

You can watch the video to the left to get a look on the species we will be looking after, plus some others that are not part of the workshop

Eider ducks and Norway’s national bird.

The tidal currents in this area are a great opportunity to photograph eider ducks. This quickly presents a variety of subjects for classic and creative wildlife photography.

Our next stop takes us to Trondheim, we're here to photograph the dipper in its most extreme element: snow and ice. Because this aquatic bird survives even the darkest months in Norway, it has become the national bird. This all set against the backdrop of the short winter days' pastel colors.

Time Schedule

1st Day: Arrival

Arrival in Trondheim and journey to the tidal current. Dinner at the hotel.

2nd & 3rd Day: Eider Ducks

We spent our days with the eiderducks, improve on our photos and prepare for Dovrefjell in theory. On the third day we relocate to Trondheim and have a small walk through the city in the early evening.

4th Day: National Bird

Before leaving towards Dovrefjell, we spend some ours in Trondheim photographing the charming White-throated dipper in its harshest element: snow and ice.

5th to 7th Day: Muskoxen of Dovrefjell

We hike through the arctic seeming mountains of Dovrefjell to photograph the Muskoxen. The light of the day is short and we walk home under the stars to find shelter at the cabins of Dovrefjell Lodge.

8th Day: Leaving to Trondheim Airport

We will leave the mountains behind and drive to the airport in Trondheim.

Details in the schedule can change due to weather conditions. Depending on the guests other topics can be focused on, for example: how to improve your filming with a mirrorless/dslr camera or camera cleaning.

Dovrefjell: Home of the muskoxen.

Our third stop is Dovrefjell. This legendary place is now blanketed in snow, and the landscape seems to be in a deep slumber. But even here, something is awake: reindeer, Arctic foxes, and musk oxen. The latter is our focus. At this time of year, it's still so cold that the oxen can sometimes be seen sporting a fresh layer of snow—a fantastic sight and a great photo opportunity! Add to that the beautiful colors of the short days, as long as the sun shines.

If we encounter reindeer, we are welcome to observe them, but we will also try to adjust our plans to avoid them and disturb their daily lives as little as possible.

Booking & Contact

Housing, food (dinner in Trondheim excluded) and transport are all included in the price. We will be spending much time outside, so good clothing to brace the Norwegian winter is necessary. Some meals will be consumed in the field for optimal light usage.
